MYHA25: A Banner Season
by posted 02/16/2020

A few weeks still remain in the MYHA’s 25th anniversary season, but already 2019-2020 has distinguished itself as a banner year.

Here are a few highlights as we head into mid-February:

  • All four teams that competed in the Long Island Amateur Hockey League qualified for the playoffs – a first in MYHA history. The 18U (4th place), 12U (3rd) and 10U (4th) Tigers all earned postseason berths in their respective LIAHL Tier II divisions; the 16U Tigers were the 3rd seed in the Tier III playoffs.
  • The 10U Tigers also reached the postseason in the Hudson Valley Hockey League. They went 15-2-1 in league play to finish first in the HVHL A Division.
  • The 14U Girls went 15-0-1 to finish first atop the Connecticut Girls Hockey League Division I standings.
  • The 16U Girls went 7-3 in CGHL 19U Division I, winning the regular-season title, and then went 4-1 to win the CGHL 19U Division I Championship in dramatic fashion in a seven round shootout. They also finished 4-0 and earned 1st seed in the East Region for the NYS Playoffs.
  • Both the 16U and 14U Girls teams qualified for the New York State Amateur Hockey Association Tier II State Tournament, to be played up in Buffalo the first full weekend in March. This will be the second-straight state tourney appearance for the 16U Girls, who once again will be the #1 seed in the East Section. The 14U Girls will be the #2 seed from the East.
  • In early February, the 12U Cheetahs went 4-0 to win C Division championship at the Jimmy Welch Tournament up in the Berkshires. They joined a growing list of MYHA teams that won tournaments this season: 18U Tigers (International Silver Stick, West Chester Regional), 8U Tigers (Liberty Cup), 16U Girls (Rhode Island Sting Columbus Day Invitational), 14U Girls (Rhode Island Sting Columbus Day Invitational).
