NY Rangers To Host Girls Try Hockey For Free Event @ Hommocks
by posted 09/15/2019

Our three girls teams -- a combined 48 players -- took the ice for a Friday night scrimmage as part of our annual Kickoff BBQ, confirming what we already knew: the MYHA is the home of girls hockey in Westchester County.

Now, we are teaming up with the New York Rangers to help grow the sport of girls hockey even more. With International Girls Hockey Day less than three weeks away, we hope you'll help us spread the word throughout the area so more girls can get introduced to the coolest game in town.

On Saturday, Oct. 5th, the Rangers are hosting a Girls Try Hockey For Free clinic at Hommocks from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Online registration is open for girls between the ages of 7-14 who have little or no skating or hockey experience.

Girls Try Hockey For Free includes:

  • Free rental skates and loaner equipment
  • Professional instruction
  • Free Rangers hockey stick your daughter can take home
  • Post-skate Meet & Greet with Erika Lawler of the NWHL's Metropolitan Riveters

The Girls Try Hockey For Free clinic is a cornerstone of the MYHA's celebration of Girls Hockey Weekend . . . but there's more on the schedule for Oct. 5th. All three MYHA girls teams will play home games at Hommocks against the Darien IceCats:

3:15 p.m.: 12U

5:30 p.m.: 14U

7:00 p.m. 16U

Reminder: Join us Friday for the MYHA's Annual Kickoff BBQ
by posted 09/12/2019

This year, Friday the 13th is our lucky night.

It's the night of the MYHA's Annual Kickoff BBQ, and we hope you'll join us to kick off our 25th anniversary season. Food and beverages will be available in the parking lot behind the rink between 6:00-8:30 p.m.

Inside, all teams will don their new jerseys -- most teams for the first time! -- and hit the ice in a series of intrasquad scrimmages:

  • 5:30-6:10 p.m.: 8U Tigers, 8U Cubs, 8U Cheetahs
  • 6:10-6:55 p.m.: 10U Tigers, 10U Cubs, 10U Cheetahs
  • 7:05-7:45 p.m.: 12U Cubs, 12U Cheetahs
  • 7:45-8:30 p.m.: 12U Tigers, 14U Tigers
  • 8:40-9:20 p.m.: 14U & 16U Girls teams
  • 9:20-10:00 p.m.: 16U Tigers, 18U Tigers

There will be action out back at the BBQ, too. Every team will contribute a basket of gift items that will be raffled off during what is our biggest fundraising event of the hockey season.

As well, our partners with the New York Rangers will be donating an item to be raffled off. And the New York Rangers Alumni Association has arranged for Ron Greschner -- who played more games for the Rangers than all but three players in team history -- to come hang with us at Hommocks.

And when you see a white 2019 VW Artem parked off to the side, be sure to stop by and thank the MYHA's newest sponsor, White Plains Volkswagon, whose donation this season provided for the special 25th anniversary pucks you'll see out on the ice on Friday. Every MYHA player, coach and manager will receive (or already has received) one of these commemorative pucks, which will be used at our home games throughout our Silver Season.

There's a lot of hockey to look forward this year . . . and it all starts on Friday night. We hope to see you there.

Welcome to Our Silver Season
by posted 09/05/2019

Happy Hockey Season!

It's always exciting to drop the puck on a new season, but it's especially so this year. The 2019-2020 season marks the MYHA's 25th anniversary, and we look forward to celebrating our Silver Season with the biggest contingent of players in our program's history.

You'll start seeing our special 25th anniversary logo (created by 12U Cubs coach, Steve Pearson) all over the place. Including pucks. The game pucks for all MYHA home games this season will be emblazoned with that special logo, thanks to the generosity of our organization's newest sponsor, White Plains Volkswagon. Throughout the season, we hope to share stories from the early days of the MYHA, and we may even have some special 25th anniversary apparel available for the holidays.

This season, though, isn't all about looking back. In fact, there are several events already on the calendar that we hope everyone is looking forward to:

* MYHA Annual Kickoff Barbecue, Friday, Sept. 13, 6:00-9:00 p.m.: In keeping with tradition, we invite all MYHA families to join us in the parking lot behind the rink for a barbecue and a fundraising raffle with gift baskets and other items available to win. And, of course, there's action inside the rink, as well. Every MYHA team will participate in a short scrimmage -- giving most of us our first look at our new uniforms out on the ice.

* International Girls Hockey Day, Saturday, Oct. 5, 3:15-8:20 p.m.: No organization in Westchester County offers more hockey opportunities for girls than the MYHA. All three of our girls teams will celebrate International Girls Hockey Day with home games against the Darien Ice Cats:

  • 12U @ 3:15 p.m.
  • 14U @ 5:30 p.m.
  • 16U @ 7:00 p.m.

Between the first two games, the New York Rangers will host a Girls-Only Try Hockey For Free clinic (4:30-5:30 p.m.) This special event will be open for girls between the ages of 7-14. Online registration is open. Girls Try Hockey For Free is desgined for players with little or no skating or hockey experience, so please spread the word to friends in town and across the area who might be interested in introducing their daughters to the coolest game in town.

Girls Try Hockey For Free includes:

  • Free rental skates and loaner equipment
  • Professional instruction
  • Free stick your daughter can take home
  • Post-skate Meet & Greet with a women's hockey player

* The Liberty Cup Tournament, Jan. 18-20: Ten MYHA teams (14U Tigers; 12U Tigers, Cubs and Cheetahs; 10U Tigers, Cubs and Cheetahs; 8U Tigers Cubs and Cheetahs) will be competig in the Liberty Cup tournament in Philadelphia over MLK Weekend. In the next few days, everyone on those teams will receive an email from Amy O'Neal from MyHockey Tournaments, providing directions for reserving hotel rooms for your family. All rooms must be reserved by Sunday, Sept. 15th.

There's so much more to look forward to this season, including a continuation of our affiliate relationship with the New York Rangers. That could mean some intermission skate opportunities at Madison Square Garden, maybe a return to the Rangers Training Facility for a night of practices and competitions. Plus, we'll be announcing our plans for an expanded second season of hosting end-of-the-year tournaments across several age groups.

We want to thank all our MYHA families for all you've done to make the first 25 years of the MYHA experience so memorable and successful. We look forward to kicking off the next quarter century with all of you.
